Darbhanga Fort
Darbhanga, Bihar, India
Darbhanga Fort, also known as Raj Quila or Ram Bagh Fort, is a historic monument in Darbhanga, Bihar, built primarily in the 17th and 18th centuries by the ruling Khandwala dynasty and Maharaja Lakshmeshwar Singh.
It spans about 85 acres and showcases a blend of Mughal and Rajput architectural styles with red brick construction, intricate carvings, and large courtyards. The fort served both as a royal residence and a defensive structure, symbolizing the rich Maithili culture and heritage. Inside the fort complex, there are palaces, gardens like Anand Bagh, and temples including the Ganga Mandir and Singheshwar Sthan, which highlight the fort's cultural and religious significance.
Despite damage over time, it remains a cultural hub where festivals and events celebrate the region’s history and traditions.
