Dhodap Fort
Maharashtra, India
Dhodap Fort is one of the highest hill forts in Maharashtra, located in the Kalwan taluka of Nashik district, standing at an elevation of about 4,829 feet (1,472 meters) in the Sahyadri mountain range.
The fort's strategic location made it important during the Maratha era, especially during the Peshwa period. It features impressive architecture with brick and dressed stone structures, including an idol of Lord Hanuman inside and caves at its base. Notable features include the pointed Shembi cliff and the fearsome Ikhara cliff on the eastern face, which attract rock climbers.
The fort’s arched gateways bear Farsi inscriptions from the Peshwa rule. The fort is accessible via a trek starting from Hatti village, approximately 60 km from Nashik, offering panoramic views and a glimpse into the region’s rich military and cultural history. It also has a unique two-storied stepwell and remnants of settlements, making it a fascinating destination for trekkers and history enthusiasts alike.
