Dronagiri Fort

Dronagiri Fort is situated on a hill near Uran town in Raigad district, Maharashtra.

The fort has a rich history dating back to the 7th century during the Satavahana era, with inscriptions mentioning the nearby village of Mor and the control of the Yadavas of Devagiri. In the 16th century, it was fortified and repaired by the Portuguese, who built three churches on the fort. The fort later came under the control of the Adilshahi Sultanate and finally the British.

In 1739, it was captured by Manaji Angre from the British. Strategically located, it served as a crucial defense point for the Uran port and the island of Gharapuri. The fort is surrounded by dense forests and offers spectacular views of the Arabian Sea, nearby islands such as Elephanta, and the surrounding coastal towns.

Although parts of the fort are in ruins today due to the impact of modern development, it remains a notable historical site with links to multiple rulers and maritime history.​​
