Siesikai Castle

Siesikai Castle is a rare Renaissance-era residential castle located near the village of Siesikai in Lithuania’s Ukmergė District, on the shores of Lake Siesikai.

It was built in the early 16th century by the nobleman Gabrielius Daumantas-Siesickis as both a residence and a fortified estate, making it one of Lithuania’s most distinctive Renaissance castles. Over the centuries, the castle changed owners several times and was modified with Neoclassical features during the 19th century. Originally protected by moats and four corner towers, only two of the towers survive today.

The castle also endured wars, including damage during a Swedish invasion in the early 18th century. After periods of decline, Siesikai Castle has undergone restoration since the 1990s and now serves as a cultural and historical attraction. Its preserved architecture, lakeside setting, and museum exhibits offer visitors a glimpse into Lithuania’s noble heritage and Renaissance past.
