El-Qubbah Presidential Palace
Hada'iq El Qobbah, Egypt, Egypt
The El-Qubbah Presidential Palace (also called Al-Qubba or Koubbeh Palace) is one of Egypt's largest and most important royal palaces, located in the Hada'iq El Qobbah district several kilometers north of central Cairo.
Built over six years (1867–1872) during Khedive Ismail's reign on the ruins of his father Ibrahim Pasha's old house, the palace spans approximately 190 acres and was designed by Egyptian, Turkish, French, and Italian engineers. It officially opened in January 1873 at Prince Muhammad Tawfiq's wedding, later becoming associated with the royal family's legendary celebrations.
After Egypt's July 23, 1952 revolution, the palace transformed into a presidential palace where President Gamal Abdel Nasser received foreign delegations and world leaders, and it now serves as the country's official guest house for visiting dignitaries and presidents. The palace houses unparalleled royal collections, rare antiques, and gardens featuring unique trees and plants dating back to Khedive Ismail's era.
