Fattegad
Maharashtra, India
Fattegad is a small coastal fort on the shore near Harne village in Ratnagiri district, one of three forts—including Goa Fort and Kanakdurg—built to guard the Suvarnadurg sea fortress. Constructed during or shortly after Shivaji’s era by Khairiyat Khan, it passed into the hands of Tulaji Angre before being captured by a joint British–Peshwa force in 1756 and finally by the British in 1817.
Little remains today beyond its seaward ramparts and the stone bridge linking it to Kanakdurg, as local fishermen have built homes atop its hummock, but its roughly three-acre footprint and ruined walls still hint at its former defensive role.
