Fort Chandia
Chandia, Madhya Pradesh, India
Fort Chandia is a historic fort located in the town of Chandia, in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh, India, near the Rewa region.
The town was once an “illakedari” estate ruled by a Baghel Rajput family serving under the Rewa State, and the fort was built in the 19th century by the local landlord, Lal Saheb Lal Chatradhar Singh, to serve as the seat of the estate’s administration and residence of the ruling family.
Today the fort stands in the middle of the town, partly inhabited by members of the old ruling family, and functions more as a local heritage landmark than as a major tourist monument, with basic fortifications and traditional structures that reflect the region’s princely‑era history.
