Fort Tiracol is a 17th-century fort originally built by the Maharaja of Sawantwadi, Khem Sawant Bhonsle, located on a hilltop overlooking the mouth of the Tiracol River in North Goa, India.

In 1746, the Portuguese, under the Viceroy Dom Pedro Miguel de Almeida, seized control of the fort after defeating the Sawantwadi forces in a fierce maritime battle. The Portuguese then fortified and revamped the structure, making it a key military bastion guarding the region and controlling the trade routes along the coast.

Over the centuries, it witnessed many historical events including involvement in the Portuguese civil war and Satyagraha movements during Goa's freedom struggle. Today, Fort Tiracol has been transformed into a luxurious heritage hotel that offers stunning panoramic views of the Arabian Sea and Tiracol River, blending its rich colonial history with modern hospitality.

Despite its conversion, the fort retains much of its historical essence, including a functioning chapel, and stands as a symbol of Goa’s resilience and colonial legacy.
