Ghangad Fort

Ghangad Fort is a 300-year-old hill fort located near Ekole village, about 30 km from Lonavla and 100 km from Pune in Maharashtra.
Historically, it served as a watchtower to monitor the trade route between Pune and the Konkan region and was used as a prison during the Peshwa period. The fort was under Maratha control until 1818 when it was surrendered to the British. The trek to Ghangad Fort is moderate and starts from Ekole village, passing through dense forests and rocky terrain.
Key features include four water cisterns, remnants of old structures, a two-story bastion with collapsed upper floors, and a large boulder forming a cave-like shelter. The fort offers panoramic views of surrounding forts such as Korigad, Tailbaila, Mulshi Dam, and Sudhagad, making it a popular trekking destination among history and nature enthusiasts.
