Verified Ginnorgarh Fort

Sehrai Ginnor, Madhya Pradesh, India

Ginnorgarh Fort, located on a rocky summit in the Ratapani Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, is a historic fort with origins dating back to the late Paramara period and prominence under the Gond rulers in the 15th century.

The fort complex includes remnants of several palaces, gatehouses, cisterns, and two natural water bodies, showcasing architectural styles similar to the Kharbuja Mahal at Dhar Fort. It gained significance under the Gond warlord Nizam Shah, whose widow Rani Kamlapati took refuge there after his death, seeking protection from Dost Muhammad Khan, the founder of Bhopal.

With the rise of Bhopal, the fort lost its importance and eventually fell into ruins, despite being a protected monument under the Madhya Pradesh Department of Archaeology and Museums.

The fort is an architectural marvel set atop a 700-meter hill, offering scenic views and notable for its water structures and historical legacy associated with Gond queens and subsequent rulers. Conservation efforts are underway to preserve this important heritage site.
