Gowalkot Fort, also known as Govindgad, is a small hill fort near Chiplun in Maharashtra, situated on the southern bank of the Vashishti River.

It was originally built by a king named Chougle and later controlled by the Siddis of Janjira. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured the fort in 1660 and renamed it Govindgad. The fort changed hands multiple times, with notable control by Sambhaji Maharaj, Siddis, Chimaji Appa, Tulaji Angre, the Peshwas, and finally the British in 1818.

The fort covers about two acres and is surrounded by the river on three sides and a trench on the fourth, making it naturally well-defended. The main entrance is in ruins, but the bastions remain intact along with several cannon remnants. A temple devoted to Goddess Karanjeshwari lies at the foothills, and from the top of the fort, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Vashishti River and the surrounding valley.

The site offers a blend of historical significance and natural beauty, drawing history enthusiasts and trekkers alike.
