Grand Jason Island
UK, United Kingdom
Grand Jason Island is the largest of the Jason Islands group in the Falkland Islands, a British Overseas Territory, covering about 14 km² with rugged cliffs, high plateaux, gullies, and tussac grasslands east of Steeple Jason.
Privately owned as a nature reserve by the Wildlife Conservation Society since 1993, it hosts major seabird colonies including black-browed albatrosses, southern rockhopper penguins, gentoo penguins, and Magellanic penguins, plus southern giant petrels, thriving predator-free except for mice on nearby Steeple Jason.
Remote and accessible mainly by cruise ship, it offers pristine wildlife viewing amid dramatic scenery in this Key Biodiversity Area northwest of West Falkland.
