Gugor Fort
India, India
Gugor Fort is a historic hill fort near Gugor town in the Baran district of Rajasthan, India, built about 800 years ago by the Khinchi (Kheechi) Rajput rulers to defend against rival clans.
The fort sits on a hill close to the Parvati River and is divided into three main parts, inside which are said to be many heroic stories and memories of the region’s past. Today the structure is largely in ruins due to neglect, but it still attracts visitors for its old walls, gates, chhatris (memorial pillars), chess platforms, a Rani Mahal, a riverside court platform where the king once listened to his subjects, and nearby temples, mosques, and the centuries‑old shrine of Pir Baba that reflect local Hindu–Muslim unity.
During the rainy season, a waterfall near the fort and the deep river pool called Ranidah (linked to legends of queens performing jauhar) add natural and historical interest, making Gugor Fort a quiet, off‑the‑beaten‑path site for those exploring lesser‑known heritage in Rajasthan.
