The fort, located in the village of Gurramkonda, is perched at a height of about 2125 feet and served as a strategic military stronghold throughout history. It changed hands multiple times, coming under the control of the Nawabs of Kadapa, the Marathas, Tipu Sultan, and eventually the British. Local legends say that rulers rode horses to reach the fort, which inspired its name—'Gurram' meaning horse and 'Konda' meaning hill.
The fort features several historical structures including the Rangin Mahal palace, temples, mosques, tombs, and water ponds. It is renowned for its architectural design and the tales of hidden treasures and royal legacy associated with it, making it an important cultural and historical site in the region.
