Verified Hari Parbat

Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, India

Hari Parbat, located on a hill overlooking the city of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, India, is a historically significant site with roots going back to the late 16th century.

The first fortifications were constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1590 as part of his plan to establish a fortified city in Srinagar. However, the fort as it stands today was mainly completed in the late 18th and early 19th century by Atta Mohammed Khan, the Afghan governor of Kashmir under the Durrani Empire. The fort features massive stone walls, battlements, and two prominent gateways known as Sangeen Darwaza and Kathi Darwaza.

It reflects a blend of Mughal, Afghan, and local Kashmiri architectural styles and houses several important religious sites including temples and shrines of different faiths, symbolizing the region’s cultural diversity. Hari Parbat provides panoramic views of Srinagar, Dal Lake, and surrounding mountains, serving as both a historic military stronghold and a cultural landmark preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India.
