HMS Castle Harbour
London, United Kingdom, United Kingdom
HMS Castle Harbour was a 730-ton civilian harbor vessel originally serving Bermuda's Furness-Withy Line, requisitioned by the Royal Navy during World War II for examination duties at Bermuda's ports to inspect incoming ships for threats like spies or saboteurs.
Armed later with a 3-inch gun, machine guns, and depth charges, it patrolled against U-boats inside the reef line before transferring to the Mediterranean in 1942 as part of Convoy TRIN-19 from Trinidad.
Tragically torpedoed by German submarine U-160 on October 16, 1942, with all hands lost, it never reached London but represents vital wartime naval service from its Bermuda base.
