Holywell is a market town and pilgrimage destination in Flintshire, northeastern Wales, near the River Dee estuary, known for St. Winefride's Well, a holy spring said to have healing powers that has attracted Christian pilgrims since the 7th century and earned the town the nickname "Lourdes of Wales".

The town's name comes from this well, which is located where St. Winifred's head is said to have fallen after she was decapitated in the 7th century, and it is counted among the Seven Wonders of Wales. The 16th-century shrine built around the spring is one of many historic monuments in the area, including the nearby ruins of 12th-century Cistercian Basingwerk Abbey.

Historically, the town grew around copper, lead, and coal mining, as well as woolen, rayon, and chemical industries, particularly cotton milling in the Greenfield Valley where the spring's constant water flow provided power for factories. Holywell is well-connected, just minutes from the A55 motorway and close to the A548 coastal road, making it an excellent base for hikers and bikers exploring the Welsh countryside.
