Ince Castle
UK, United Kingdom
Ince Castle is a 17th‑century brick manor house set on a private 190‑acre peninsula overlooking the River Lynher, about three miles from Saltash in Cornwall.
Despite its name, it is more of a fortified manor than a true castle, built in 1642 at the start of the English Civil War and later captured by Parliamentary forces in 1646. The house has four tall brick towers with remarkably thick walls and a grand interior that has been rebuilt and restored after a serious fire in 1988.
It is Grade I listed, stands within the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and remains a private residence with no regular public access to the house, although its gardens are occasionally opened for visitors under the RHS’s National Gardens Scheme.
