Indrai Fort
Indraiwadi, Maharashtra, India
Indrai Fort, also called Indragiri, is a medium-sized hill fort in the Chandwad taluka of Nashik district, Maharashtra, sitting on the Satmal (Ajanta Satmaal) hill range at about 4,490 feet (roughly 1,368 meters) above sea level.
It is one of four forts in a line on this range—Chandwad, Indrai, Rajdher, and Koldher—and although historically important, it is still relatively less visited by trekkers compared to other Nashik forts. The base village for the fort is Indraiwadi (sometimes accessed via Rajdherwadi or Wadbare), which lies about 9 km from Chandwad and around 75 km from Nashik city.
The climb is generally considered easy to moderate, with the main route involving around 150 rock-cut steps carved into the scarp, and most trekkers reach the summit in about 2–3 hours depending on pace and starting point. On the fort itself, there are several notable features: a Persian rock-cut inscription near the entrance, around ten rock-cut caves, a Mahadev (Lord Shiva) temple, a small administrative structure called the Kacheri, and multiple rock-cut water cisterns and tanks that provide water even in less rainy seasons.
