Verified Ita Fort

Itanagar, India

Ita Fort, located in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, India, is a historic brick fort believed to have been built around the 14th or 15th century by the kings of the Chutiya (Sutiya) kingdom, which ruled the region during that period. The fort's name means "Fort of Bricks" in the Assamese language, and it is constructed mainly with bricks of various sizes, totaling around 16,200 cubic meters, making it a significant example of medieval architecture.

Ita Fort has an irregular shape with three gates on the western, eastern, and southern sides, positioned strategically for defense and overlooking valleys and rivers. Its ruins reflect meticulous planning and craftsmanship, with stone and brick masonry, although natural erosion and other factors have damaged the structure over time.

The fort is historically connected to local dynasties and possibly served as a political and military center, and it lends its name to the city of Itanagar. Today, the fort remains an important archaeological and cultural heritage site, drawing visitors interested in the region’s history and ancient architecture.
