Verified Iwasaki Castle Ruins Park

Nisshin, Japan, Japan

Iwasaki Castle Ruins Park is a historical park in the city of Nisshin, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, that preserves the remains of Iwasaki Castle, a hill castle built during the Sengoku period in Owari Province as a supporting fortress to nearby Shobata Castle.

Originally constructed before 1529 by Oda Nobuhide (father of Oda Nobunaga) to protect his eastern territories, the castle was conquered in 1529 by Matsudaira Kiyoyasu (grandfather of Tokugawa Ieyasu), and later became a strategic stronghold contested between the Owari and Mikawa domains, playing a role in the broader campaigns that helped unify Japan.

Today, the site is a two-hectare park where excavated remains such as a well and a turret (yagura) can be seen alongside a modern reconstructed tenshu (main tower) built in 1987 out of ferro-concrete, which houses a small local history museum displaying ceramics, samurai armor, documents, photographs, maps, and artifacts from the castle ruins.

The park is freely accessible, open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and features well-kept greenery and picturesque ruins that make it a quiet spot for walks, picnics, and seasonal events such as the Iwasaki Castle Spring Festival, where visitors can enjoy traditional dances, food stalls, and local promotions.
