Yoshida Castle Iron Turret
Toyohashi, Japan
Yoshida Castle Iron Turret in Toyohashi, Japan, is a reconstructed three-story turret originally part of a flatland-style castle first built in 1505. The castle, also called Imabashi Castle, played a key role during the Sengoku period, changing hands among powerful clans like the Imagawa and Tokugawa.
Although the main keep was never completed, the castle was expanded by Ikeda Terumasa in the early 1600s and became a significant stronghold on the Tōkaidō road. The original structures were mostly destroyed by fire in the 19th century, but in 1954 the Iron Turret was rebuilt in reinforced concrete and now houses a small museum.
The castle grounds are part of a public park offering historical exhibits and pleasant scenery, symbolizing Toyohashi’s rich samurai heritage.
