Verified Jaisalmer Fort

Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India

Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort, is a massive yellow‑sandstone fortress perched on Trikuta Hill in the heart of Jaisalmer city, Rajasthan, India.

Built in 1156 by the Bhatti Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, it is one of the largest and oldest continuously inhabited forts in India, and part of the UNESCO‑listed Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Inside its high crenellated walls live about a quarter of Jaisalmer’s population, alongside grand havelis, Jain temples, the old royal palace (Raj Mahal), and narrow winding lanes packed with shops, guesthouses, and restaurants.

Its golden‑hued stone glows especially at sunrise and sunset, giving Jaisalmer its reputation as the “Golden City” and making the fort one of Rajasthan’s most iconic tourist landmarks.
