Jalalgarh Fort
Bihar, India
Jalalgarh Fort, located about 20 kilometers north of Purnia in Bihar, is an over 300-year-old ruined fort believed to have been built in 1722 by Saif Khan, the Faujdar of Purnea, or possibly by Raja Syed Mohammad Jalaluddin. The large quadrangular structure has high walls that once protected the region from Nepalese invasions.
Situated near the Kosi River, the fort's design is a blend of Hindu and Islamic architectural styles, featuring semi-circular chambers and tall, thick walls with domed bastions. Though much of the fort lies in ruins today and the land has seen encroachments, it remains a site of historical importance, with restoration efforts announced by the Bihar government to revive its past glory.
The fort was historically used as a military barracks and was strategically positioned near the border to guard against invasions.
