Jigokudani Monkey Park

Nagano Prefecture, Japan

---

Jigokudani Monkey Park is a famous wildlife park located in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, and is best known for its population of wild Japanese macaques, often called snow monkeys.

The park is situated in a mountainous area with cold winters and heavy snowfall, where visitors can observe the monkeys living in their natural habitat. It gained worldwide recognition because the monkeys frequently bathe in natural hot springs to keep warm during the winter months. Surrounded by forests and scenic landscapes, the park offers a unique opportunity to watch the monkeys interact, play, and care for one another at close range.

The animals are not kept in cages and roam freely within the area, making the experience especially authentic. As one of Japan's most distinctive nature attractions, Jigokudani Monkey Park is celebrated for its combination of wildlife, natural beauty, and memorable winter scenery.
