Kaala Fort
Alwar, India
Kaala Fort, also known as Bala Quila or Alwar Fort, is a historic hill fort located atop a rugged hill in Alwar, Rajasthan. Built originally in 928 AD by the Nikumbh Rajputs and later significantly fortified by Hasan Khan Mewati in the 15th century, the fort showcases a blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles.
Spanning about 5 kilometers in length with thick walls, it features numerous gates, towers, palaces, temples, and water reservoirs. The fort’s strategic position on the Aravalli Hills allowed it to serve as a strong defensive bastion overseeing the city below. Notable gates like Suraj Pol, Jai Pol, Laxman Pol, and Chand Pol present intricate carvings reflecting the fort’s royal heritage.
The fort has witnessed many rulers, including the Mughals, Marathas, Jats, and finally the Kachwaha Rajputs, with historical connections to Mughal emperor Babur and Jahangir. Today, it remains a well-preserved cultural landmark offering panoramic views and rich history to visitors.
