Kalavantin Durg is a dramatic, fortress-like rock pinnacle in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, India, famous more for its thrilling climb than for an actual fort structure.

Although often called a “durg” (fort), it functioned historically as a watch tower used by local rulers to monitor the surrounding area and the old Mumbai–Pune route. The trek begins from the base village of Thakurwadi near Panvel and takes about 2–3 hours to reach the summit, which stands at around 2,250 feet (roughly 685 meters) above sea level.

The path is a steep, narrow series of stone steps carved directly into the rock face, with no ropes or guardrails, making it feel precarious and vertigo-inducing for many, especially as the climb gets higher. Despite this, the trail is generally considered easy to moderate in difficulty, with small tea and snack stalls along the way and a more comfortable resting spot at Prabalmachi, a plateau at about 1,279 feet where trekkers can break for breakfast or rest before continuing.
