A strategic site during warring clans' skirmishes, it became the seat of Kaminoyama Domain lords like the Toki clan in the Edo period, earning fame as a "famous castle of Ushu" before dismantling in 1692 for being too grand and fully razed in 1872.

Today, the ruins feature a 1982 concrete mock main keep housing a local history museum with valley views, minimal original stone walls or gates, and nearby preserved samurai residences from 200 years ago showcasing mid-level warrior life amid cherry blossoms and hot springs.
