Verified Kamlah Fort

Himachal Pradesh, India

Kamlah Fort, also called Kamlahgarh, is a 17th‑century hill fort in Himachal Pradesh near Kamlah village in the Sarkaghat tehsil of Mandi district, built between 1605 and about 1625 by Raja Hari Sen and completed by his son Raja Suraj Sen to protect the throne and treasury of the Mandi kingdom.

Situated at about 4,772 feet on the Sikandar Dhar ridge, the fort was once regarded as the most secure of Mandi’s 360 forts and withstood invasions, including Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s siege in 1830, before being destroyed in 1840 and later rebuilt by the Mandi rulers in 1846. The fort’s name is linked to the local saint Baba Kamlahiya (Kamlah Baba), who, according to legend, meditated under a tree here and whose shrine crowns the summit, making the site both a historical and religious monument.
