Kampli Kote Hebbagilu
Kampli, Karnataka, India
Kampli Kote Hebbagilu, also known as Kampli Fort, is located on the right bank of the Tungabhadra River in Karnataka. It was historically the capital of the Kingdom of Kampili, established in the early 14th century, and known for its strong defense under rulers such as Kampila Raya and King Kumara Rama.
The fort's architecture reflects the Vijayanagara era with carved pillars, archways, and gun loopholes. Key structures inside the fort include the Banni Mahankali Temple near the entrance, Killa Anjaneya Temple with sculptural details, and the Pampapathi Temple, notable for its gopuram and inscriptions from the Vijayanagara period.
