Kankwadi is actually a village and fort site in Rajasthan, not Maharashtra: it lies in the Sariska Tiger Reserve of Alwar district in Rajasthan, where the historic Kankwadi (also spelled Kankwari) fort stands on a small hill surrounded by dense forest and the Aravalli ranges.

The fort was originally built in the 16th century by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II of Amber-Jaipur as a famine-relief work and later became famous because the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his brother Dara Shikoh here in the 1600s during their struggle for the throne, eventually leading to Dara’s death.
