Karnal, located in Haryana, India, is a city with a rich historical and cultural legacy. It is said to be founded by Raja Karna from the Mahabharata epic, giving the city its name meaning "Karna's abode."

Karnal became prominent in 1739 during the Battle of Karnal, where Nader Shah of Persia decisively defeated the Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah, dealing a critical blow to the Mughal Empire. Over the centuries, it was ruled by various dynasties including the Delhi Sultanate and the Mughals, and later played a role in the struggles between the Marathas, Sikhs, and British.

Karnal features historical landmarks such as an ancient fort built by Raja Gajpat Singh of Jind, which later served as a British cantonment and a school, along with several religious sites including temples and gurdwaras.
