Khaba Fort
Rajasthan, India
Khaba Fort is an ancient, abandoned ruined citadel near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, India, set in the middle of the ghost village of Kuldhara about 16–36 kilometres from the city in the Thar Desert.
It dates back to the 13th–14th century and was closely linked to the prosperous settlement of Kuldhara, which was inhabited by the skilled Paliwal Brahmins known for their advanced agriculture and trade. In the early 19th century, the entire village was mysteriously abandoned in a single night, with theories ranging from drought, water scarcity and oppressive taxation to folklore about the place being cursed, though no historical evidence supports supernatural claims.
