The fort is a classic example of medieval Rajput architecture, sprawling over nearly 10,000 square meters with numerous chambers, halls, courtyards, terraces, and intricately designed jharokhas (window balconies). It stands strategically on a hill overlooking the Parvati River, which enhances its scenic beauty especially during the monsoon when the river rises and submerges some of the fort’s steps.

Historically, Khatoli was a semi-independent fiefdom positioned between the major kingdoms of Jaipur, Kota, and Bundi, serving as a royal residence and a symbol of Rajput authority. The fort’s architecture is marked by robust stone walls, sensory architectural details, and commanding views, making it a significant cultural and heritage landmark in the region.
