Klaipėda Castle

Klaipėda, Lithuania, Lithuania

---

Klaipėda Castle is a historic fortress in the city of Klaipėda, Lithuania, originally built by the Teutonic Order in the 13th century.

For centuries, it served as an important military and administrative center, controlling access to the Baltic coast and the surrounding region. The castle was repeatedly damaged, rebuilt, and modified during wars involving regional powers, eventually losing its military importance in the 19th century.

Much of the original structure was later dismantled, leaving only parts of the fortifications and archaeological remains. Today, Klaipėda Castle is an important cultural and historical site. The restored remains house a museum that showcases the castle’s history, archaeological discoveries, and the development of Klaipėda, making it one of the city’s most significant landmarks.
