Kohoj Fort

Kohoj Fort, located near Palghar in Maharashtra, India, is about 800 years old and was originally built by the King of Gujarat. It played an important role in regional control and was among the 23 forts surrendered by Shivaji Maharaj to the Mughals in the 1665 Treaty of Purandar.
The Portuguese later captured the fort and added fortifications, and it was subsequently taken over by the Peshwas and finally the British. The fort stands at about 3,200 feet and features ruins including a Lord Shiva temple, water cisterns, fortification walls, and natural rock formations such as a man-shaped pinnacle formed by wind erosion.
The fort is a popular trekking destination offering scenic views of surrounding forts and the Arabian Sea, and the trek usually takes about two to three hours from the nearby village of Vaghote.
