Kumbhalgarh Fort
Rajasthan, India
Kumbhalgarh Fort, located in Rajasthan's Aravalli Hills, was built in the 15th century by Rana Kumbha, who ordered its construction between 1438 and 1458 AD. Known for its massive defensive walls stretching about 36 kilometers, the fort is the second longest wall in the world after the Great Wall of China.
It served as a vital stronghold for the Mewar kingdom, providing a secure refuge and military base during times of conflict. Kumbhalgarh is also the birthplace of the legendary Rajput king Maharana Pratap. The fort features seven fortified gateways, palaces, temples like Neelkanth Mahadev, and ingenious water systems with dams and step-wells that supported long sieges.
Its architectural design blends natural hill contours with robust fortifications, making it nearly impregnable and a key symbol of Rajput valor. The fort was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013 and remains a popular historical and tourist attraction.
