Laxmangarh Fort
Laxmangarh, Rajasthan, India
Laxmangarh Fort is a historic hill fort located in the town of Laxmangarh in Sikar district of Rajasthan, about 30 km from Sikar, famous in the Shekhawati region for its unique architecture built on scattered huge rock formations and its commanding view of the town and surrounding countryside.
The fort was constructed in the early 19th century by Rao Raja Laxman Singh of Sikar, traditionally dated around 1805–1862, with Laxman Singh also founding the nearby town of Laxmangarh in 1807 (some sources mention 1864) to protect the region and its people after the town of Beragaon was besieged by Kan Singh Saledhi.
Unlike many older forts in Rajasthan, Laxmangarh is a relatively new construction, and its design combines traditional Rajputana and Mughal architectural influences, with massive gates, thick walls, bastions, and an interior featuring decorated halls, gardens, and residential spaces adorned with carvings and frescoes depicting local folklore, Hindu mythology, and everyday life of the era.
