Lingana Fort
Kadsari Lingana, Maharashtra, India
Lingana Fort, located in Maharashtra’s Raigad district near Kadsari, is a steep rock pinnacle rising to 2,969 feet above sea level, named for its resemblance to the Shiva Linga. Built in 1648 by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it served as a strategic outpost to defend the Konkan region and later as a penal settlement where prisoners were held in rock dungeons.
The fort is known for its extreme climbing difficulty, with damaged rock-cut steps making access challenging, attracting experienced trekkers and rock climbers. Today, the fort is mostly ruins with traces of grain stores and water cisterns but offers spectacular views of nearby Raigad and Torna forts, making it a prized destination for adventure seekers and history enthusiasts.
