Verified Machnur Fort

Machnur, Maharashtra, India

Machnur Fort is a historical fort located in the village of Machnur near the Bhima River in Solapur district, Maharashtra. Built around 1615 by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb as a military camp to protect against Maratha attacks, it housed a large battalion and served as a strategic location for his court matters.

The fort features strong defensive architecture, including a wall built to trap enemies, two porches on either side of the main entrance, and eight bastions along its well-preserved ramparts. Within the fort stands a mosque opposite the entrance, a carved water cistern, and tombs believed to include that of Aurangzeb’s daughter Zebbunnisa.

Nearby is the ancient Siddheshwar temple complex made of black stone, resembling Tuljapur’s temple, known for its intricately carved statues and religious significance. Despite parts damaged by river flooding, the fort remains a protected monument and offers scenic views of the Bhima River and surrounding landscapes.
