Maliabad Fort
Maliabad, Karnataka, India
Malliabad Fort stands on a rocky hill about five kilometres from Raichur in north Karnataka, its origins tracing to 1294 when the Kakatiya rulers of Warangal built its strong walls. Within its ramparts lie the ruins of a Vishnu temple and two life-sized white-granite elephants that once flanked the gateway during the Vijayanagara era.
In 1520 the fort hosted Krishnadevaraya and his army during the Battle of Raichur, and although the structure fell into ruin over time, it is now a protected archaeological monument under Karnataka’s Department of Archaeology.
