Malkhed Fort, also known as Manyakheta Fort, located near Gulbarga in Karnataka, was the capital of the Rashtrakuta dynasty from 814 to 968 AD and later became the capital of the Western Chalukyas.

The fort is situated along the banks of the Kagina River and is known for its strategic design with thick limestone walls reaching over 20 feet, four entrances, and 52 bastions. Inside the fort are ruins of palaces, temples including a Jain Basadi, and a Jumma Masjid along with several dargahs.

The fort served as an important cultural and political center and was a hub for scholars from Jain, Buddhist, and Hindu traditions during the Rashtrakuta period. Today, the fort stands in various states of ruin but remains a significant historical site reflecting the grandeur and legacy of the Rashtrakutas and their successors.
