Markandya Fort, also known as Markinda or Markanda Fort, is a historic hill fort located 52 km from Nashik in Maharashtra.

The fort, situated atop a mountain in the Ajintha Satmal range, stands at 4,383 feet and is known for its strategic importance and scenic views. It is believed the Hindu sage Markandeya once lived here, protecting Brahmin priests from demons, and a temple dedicated to Markandeya still stands at the summit. The fort has a rich history, having been controlled by the Rashtrakutas, Mughals, and Marathas, with notable battles involving Shivaji Maharaj around 1670. Visitors can explore carved steps, caves used for meditation, the remains of towers, and the temple of Lord Shiva atop the fort.

The nearby town of Vani serves as a base for treks, and the best trekking season is from August to February. The fort offers panoramic views of Saptashrungi Fort, Rawla Jawla, and Dhodap, making it a popular destination for history and nature enthusiasts.
