Verified Monsoon Palace

Kodiyat, Rajasthan, India

The Monsoon Palace, also known as Sajjangarh Palace, is a striking hilltop palace built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh of the Mewar dynasty in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Perched on the Bansdara peak of the Aravalli hills at about 3,100 feet above sea level, the palace was originally intended as an astronomical center for monitoring monsoon clouds, hence its popular name.

Constructed with white marble, it features high turrets, intricately carved pillars, domes, fountains, and ornate balconies called jharokhas, showcasing exquisite Rajasthani architecture. After Maharana Sajjan Singh's early death, the palace was completed by his successor and used as a royal hunting lodge and observation point for rains. Today, it offers panoramic views of Udaipur’s lakes, palaces, and surrounding countryside, making it a favored spot for sunset viewing and photography.

The palace stands as a testament to royal vision, architectural beauty, and historical significance.
