Nahar Singh Mahal
Haryana, India
Nahar Singh Mahal, also known as Raja Nahar Singh Palace or Ballabhgarh Fort, is an 18th‑century heritage fort in Ballabhgarh in Faridabad district, Haryana, built by the forefathers of Jat Raja Nahar Singh around 1739 and completed in parts up to about 1850, after which the town of Ballabhgarh took its name.
The double‑storey sandstone structure is centered on a large courtyard with elaborate cupolas, minarets at its four corners (only two survive today), and decorated halls such as the Darbar‑e‑aam (Hall of Public Audience) and a Rang Mahal with a beautiful chhatri, blending Mughal and Rajput architectural styles.
The palace got special historical importance because Raja Nahar Singh played a major role in the 1857 rebellion, was later arrested by the British, and publicly executed at Chandni Chowk in Delhi on 9 January 1858, making the fort a symbol of his sacrifice. Now managed by Haryana Tourism, it has been renovated and is used as a heritage hotel, restaurant, and popular venue for film and TV shootings, fashion shoots, and events, while its Kartik Cultural Festival in November continues to celebrate local culture and the legacy of the king.
