Narayangad Fort

Narayangad Fort, located near Narayangaon in Maharashtra, India, dates back to the Satavahana era and served as a watchpoint for the important Junnar-Paithan trade route. It was rebuilt and fortified between 1714 and 1720 under the first Peshwa, Balaji Vishvanath, who granted it as a service-fiefdom to Sayaji Povar.
The fort features water tanks, temples dedicated to Goddess Hastamata and Mukai, and remnants of defensive structures. It surrendered to the British after the Anglo-Maratha War in 1818. Located about 80 km from Pune, the fort is accessible via a short climb and is near the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope in Khodad village. It is popular among trekkers and offers scenic views of the surrounding Western Ghats.
