National Trust – Plas Newydd House and Gardens is a historic country house and estate on the north coast of Anglesey, Wales, set right on the banks of the Menai Strait with sweeping views across to Snowdonia.

The house, whose name means “new hall” in Welsh, has roots going back to the late 15th century but was substantially remodelled in the 18th and early 19th centuries into a striking Neo‑classical‑Gothick residence, later serving as the country seat of the Marquesses of Anglesey.

It is now cared for by the National Trust and is famous for its Grade I listed interior, including Rex Whistler’s vast Italianate mural in the dining room and a mix of art, military memorabilia, and theatrical design from the 1930s.

The surrounding 40‑acre garden and 129‑acre woodland are also Grade I listed, with formal terraces, a rhododendron garden, an arboretum, and playful family features such as a treehouse and red‑squirrel‑watching spots, making it a major visitor destination that blends dramatic architecture, rich interior storytelling, and expansive coastal–parkland scenery.
