Navratangarh Fort
Jharkhand, India
Navratangarh Fort in Jharkhand, India, was constructed between 1636 and 1639 by King Durjan Sal of the Nagvanshi dynasty after his release from Mughal captivity. The fort served as the capital, replacing Khukhragarh, and was strategically located amid forests, hills, and rivers, making it difficult for invaders to access.
The five-storied palace within the fort had nine rooms on each floor, featuring a "water-gate," moat, court, treasury house, and prison-cell with an underground dungeon. The fort complex also included several temples built by Durjan Sal and his successors, notably King Ram Shah who built the Kapilnath Temple in 1643.
Navratangarh was a center of cultural and architectural development of the Nagvanshi kings until the capital was moved to Palkot due to Mughal pressures. The site is recognized as a national heritage monument for its historical significance and remains a symbol of the rich legacy of the Nagvanshi rulers in the Chota Nagpur region.
