Nimule National Park, located in South Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria State near the Ugandan border, is one of the country’s oldest protected areas, established in 1954 and covering about 410 square kilometers.

The park features diverse landscapes including savannas, woodlands, rocky outcrops, and riverine habitats along the White Nile River, with notable landmarks like the scenic Fola Rapids. It supports a rich variety of wildlife such as elephants, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, Nile crocodiles, leopards, and hyenas, along with numerous bird species including African fish eagles and goliath herons.

The park’s wildlife populations suffered heavily due to poaching during the Sudanese civil war but have been steadily recovering since its reopening to the public in 2008. Nimule offers a unique eco-tourism experience with boat safaris on the Nile and plays a vital role in biodiversity conservation and local community livelihoods, showcasing impressive natural beauty and diverse ecosystems.
