Painshill is an 18th-century English landscape garden located in Cobham, Surrey, created between 1738 and 1773 by the Honorable Charles Hamilton.

Inspired by his European Grand Tours, Hamilton designed the garden as a series of picturesque scenes combining exotic plants, architectural follies, and natural features like lakes and woodlands to evoke a range of emotions and experiences for visitors. The garden originally began as heathland and woodland, which Hamilton transformed with thoughtful planting including many non-native species.

Over time, the garden fell into disrepair but was rescued in the late 20th century when Elmbridge Borough Council purchased significant parts of the estate and established the Painshill Park Trust to restore it. Today, Painshill is recognized as a Grade I listed historic park, celebrated for its artistic landscaping, architectural features like the Gothic Temple and Crystal Grotto, and serving as a beloved public space offering both education and recreation.
